Types of Prepared Speech
Original Oratory (OO):
In OO, you compose your own speech of up to 10 minutes, memorize it, and deliver it. Speeches are usually persuasive and/or motivational, and they may be on any topic that is not vulgar or crude.
Original Advocacy (OA):
In OA, you compose your own speech of up to 10 minutes, memorize it, and deliver it. Speeches are on an issue and its legislative solution.
Oratorical Interpretation (OI):
In OI, you memorize and deliver a published speech of up to 10 minutes (speeches may be cut and reformatted to fit the time limit).
Dramatic Interpretation (DI):
In DI, you memorize and deliver any primarily dramatic work of up to 10 minutes (piece may be cut and reformatted to fit the time limit). The presentation should tell a story.
Humorous Interpretation (HI):
In HI, you memorize and deliver any primarily humorous work of up to 10 minutes (piece may be cut and reformatted to fit the time limit). The presentation should tell a story.
Thematic Interpretation (TI):
In TI, you choose a theme and then memorize and deliver portions of 3 published works which support that theme (pieces may be cut and reformatted to fit the time limit).
Duo Interpretation (Duo):
In Duo, you and a partner memorize and deliver a published work which tells a story (piece may be cut and reformatted to fit the time limit).
Expository (Expos):
In Expos, you write an informative oral "report" on any subject you think would be of interest or importance to the audience. You may also use portable audio and/or visual aids during the speech. Aids requiring external materials (computers, electrical outlets, etc.) should not be used.
Original Prose and Poetry (OPP):
In OPP, you compose your own work of prose, poetry, or a combination of the two. You then memorize and deliver it. The entire presentation may be a maximum of 10 minutes.
