Spontaneous Argumentations (SpAr)
SpAr stands for Spontaneous Argumentations. Spar is considered to be both speech and debate. It is one of the more informal speech and debate events. Spar is between two individuals, each debating over the same topic(aff/neg). Each person is given to minutes to prepare an argument for their case. After time has elapsed, the affirmative(aff) speaker gives a two minute constructive, and the negative (neg) follows with a two minute constructive. After that is a two minute rebuttal, followed by a one minute closing argument from the aff side an then a one minute neg closing argument. You are judged by your SPEAKING ABILITY rather than if you “won” the debate itself. Spar is extremely sponatenous as the title suggests and is an extremely fun event.
