Extemporaneous (Extemp)
Extemporaneous Speech is a type of impromptu speech that involves 30 minutes of prep time to make a speech up to seven minutes in length. The topic given involves national and international issues for the two types of extemporaneous speech, national extemporaneous and international extemporaneous, respectively. During the 30 minutes of preparation time, the speaker will go through his or her extemporaneous briefcase. This extemporaneous briefcase contains magazines, books, web articles, and more to be used in the speech. The speech itself should be memorized. To participate in this event, you have to have a strong knowledge of current events and you should love researching for hours on end. I’ve seen extemporaneous suitcases that are the size of small dinosaurs. Here’s a sample of an extemporaneous speech: http://bcove.me/o13sk2nt.
